Sony World Photography Awards 2020 is now open to participate (Total Prize fund of USD 60,000)

Produced by the World Photography Organization, the internationally acclaimed Sony World Photography Awards are one of the most important accessories on the world photographic calendar.

The awards are a global voice for photography and provide a vital vision of contemporary photography today. For both established and emerging artists, the Awards offer world-class opportunities to exhibit their work.

Now in its thirteenth year, the Awards consist of four competitions:

  • Professional (for a body of work)
  • Open (for a single image)
  • Student (for academic institutions)
  • Young people (for children from 12 to 19 years old)

Always free to participate, there is a competition and a category for everyone: from architecture, documentary, landscape, portrait, sport, street photography, wildlife, travel, culture and more.

Sony photography awards:

  1. The images sent (if taken with the phone) should not yet be smaller than 1 MB to enter, and a higher resolution version may still be required.
  2. Participation in any competition of the Sony World Photography Awards 2020 must have been made in 2019 (from January 1 to December 31, 2019), with the only exception that participation in the professional competition may have been made before this, only If they were first published in 2019.
  3. In the professional competition, you can enter a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 10 images per category. On the other hand, in Open and Youth competitions, one can enter up to 3 images in total for free.

Student Competition:

  1. The combined series of images should not be larger than 10 MB and should be sent as a Jpeg file. You must also have a high-resolution version available for printing.
  2. The candidate’s university must be registered to participate in the contest.
  3. Digital manipulation is allowed, however, one must provide details of how your image has been altered.

Professional competence: January 14, 2020

Student Focus Contest: November 29, 2019

Eligibilities

Professional, open and youthful:

  • Participation in any competition of the Sony World Photography Awards 2020 must have been made in 2019 (from January 1 to December 31, 2019), with the only exception that participation in the professional competition may have been made before this, only If they were first published in 2019.
  • Only in the professional competition, the images that have been commissioned or acquired to be published for the first time in 2019 can also be entered, but only after the date of publication.
  • You must be between 12 and 19 years old to participate in the youth competition

Student Competition:

  • Must be between 18 and 30 years old
  • The institution must teach higher education photography: a minimum of a photography module/course as part of a degree course or similar.
  • The competition is for all students studying an element of photography within a higher education course.

Professional, open and youthful:

  1. Make sure the images are larger than 1 MB and are in JPEG format. Images must not be less than 1 MB or more than 5 MB. Images must be JPEG or TIFF files.
  2. In professional competition, you can enter a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 10 images per category. In the Open and Youth competitions, you can enter up to 3 images in total for free. One can enter more images by buying their packages.
  3. All images must be submitted online, through the website.

Student Competition:

  1. The combined series of images should not be larger than 10 MB and should be sent as a Jpeg file.
  2. The image can be in black and white or in color
  3. Only one image can be sent.
